Battling for Peace in an Anxious World

It is likely that 2018 will be seen by historians and theologians alike as a significant cultural moment for women. The controversy surrounding sexual freedom and identity; the social issues raised by the #MeToo movement; and the confusion regarding gender roles are just a few of the deep concerns facing the 21st Century Christian woman, concerns that desperately need the wisdom that comes from the Word of God.

Carolyn will be speaking about how to think about these issues spiritually and biblically, as well as the ways the church is called to minister to and through women. She has a heart for how these issues impact women personally and what it means for them to be a people of love, hope, and healing. She will be pulling from her three books and recent articles for this conference. Her hope is that this perspective will point us to greater worship of a fully trustworthy God.

FAQ

Please read through the following frequently asked questions:

Can I bring a friend from another church? Yes! Your friend will need to register separately, and complete the roommate sign-up form herself.

Is there a social media hash tag? Yes. It's #4oakswomen

How do I select my roommates for a 4-person room? Once you have registered,  you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the online roommate sign-up form. Take a look at the form and determine which room will work for you, then tell those you want to room with to go to the form and sign themselves up in that same room (the rooms will be numbered on the form).

  • Note: DO NOT SIGN SOMEONE ELSE UP ON THE ROOM SIGN-UP FORM! We believe that the best way to avoid problems is if everyone signs up only for herself (and yes, we can tell).

  • Note: You will be sharing a room with 3 other people. In order to make the rooming list work, we may have to move some people into other rooms to fill them up. If this happens, we will make every attempt to put you with at least one other person that you originally signed up to room with.

  • Note: The roommate signup form will expire on October 3. If you have not signed up for a room by October 4, we will assign you to a room.

How do I select my roommates for a 2-person room? If you registered for the two-person per room option, contact Debbie Cunningham with your roommate information.

What are the rooms like? Four ladies will be assigned to each room. Each room has:

  • Two large size double beds

  • Bunk-beds

  • Mini-refrigerator

  • Microwave

  • Coffee maker with complimentary coffee and tea

  • Dressing area with two vanities

  • Private balcony, with full or partial Gulf of Mexico views

  • Flat-screen LCD television with cable and in-room movie access

  • Adjustable thermostat

  • Electronic door lock

  • In-room safe

  • Iron and ironing board

  • Hairdryer

  • Complimentary newspaper

We suggest you bring snacks and drinks to keep in your room.

I want to stay somewhere other than the Hilton Sandestin. Can I pay for the conference only? No

Can I book a room with only two people? Yes. You must choose the 2-person per room option on the registration form and pay the required fee.

How do I change my room placement? To change room placement prior to October 3, go to the sign-up, remove your name from the room you are currently in, and add yourself to the desired room.

On October 3 roommate assignments will be submitted to the Hilton. Any changes after October 3 will need to be submitted to Debbie Cunningham. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but cannot guarantee it.

How do I sign up for a car pool?  Each participant is responsible for arranging travel to and from the retreat. After your registration is received, you will receive a link to the car-pool sign-up form. It is the responsibility of drivers and riders to contact each other to make arrangements.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my registration? If you need to cancel your registration, you must contact Debbie Cunningham by October 3. You will be reimbursed your registration fee minus a $30 administrative fee. There will be no reimbursement for cancellations made after October 4.

Can I transfer my registration to another person? You are welcome to transfer your registration to another person; however, the church will not issue a refund in these circumstances. All financial transactions associated with the transfer must be made between you and the other person.

Please let us know of your plan to transfer your registration by October 22 so we can change the name of the registrant on the nametag. We will need the phone number and email address of the person you are transferring your registration to. If you have already signed up for a room, that person will take your place.

What if I need financial help with the registration fee? If you attend Four Oaks Killearn, contact Debbie Cunningham. If you attend Four Oaks Midtown, contact Bethany Wester

Are children allowed to attend? We will not have childcare at the retreat. Infants are allowed provided that the mother has informed those she is rooming with, and that the baby will not be a distraction to other moms in the teaching sessions. Teenagers are allowed to attend at the parent’s discretion and must be registered separately.  For questions, contact Debbie Cunningham.

What are the meal options?

Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday. All other meals will be on your own.

Visit http://www.hiltonsandestinbeach.com/destin-florida-restaurants  for restaurants on the Hilton property. Google search nearby restaurants to find other options in the area.

Are there things to do in the Destin area? Yes. On the Hilton property there are several pools, the Serenity By the Sea spa, golf, bike rentals, and nearby hiking trails, as well as world-class beaches right outside your door. There are also several outdoor malls in the area for those who would like to shop during their free time Saturday.

What if my question hasn’t been answered? Email Debbie Cunningham or call 850-385-9807.

Will the content from the retreat be posted? It is our hope to post the content online, but we cannot guarantee it.

How can I be added to the retreat text message list? Give us your mobile phone number and mobile plan carrier when you register.
